Paediatric Clinic Referral & Service Policy

Objective:
To offer timely, effective, and accessible Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and

Occupational Therapy (OT) for children, addressing their needs in a structured, practical way.

1. New Referrals:

How to Refer:
Parents, guardians, or professionals can refer children through our online referral form.

Once received, we will confirm the referral and provide next steps.

Referral Form

Assessment:
We aim to provide an initial assessment within 2 weeks. During the assessment, we will evaluate the child's needs, review relevant history, and provide feedback, training and advice with tailored strategies to work on at home and/or in school.

2. Intervention Plan:

Initial Appointments:
After the assessment, the child will receive 1-2 intervention sessions (45 minutes

each). These sessions will address immediate concerns and offer strategies for progress at home and in everyday settings.

  • ●  Parent Involvement in Training Sessions:
Parents are encouraged to actively participate in training sessions. We will provide

practical strategies and activities to implement at home to support the child's goals.

  • ●  8-Week Home Plan:
Following the initial sessions, families will receive an 8 week home program, which

includes goals, strategies, and activities to continue progress independently between visits.

    3. Follow-Up and Continuity of Care:

Ongoing Support:
Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to ensure continuity of care, regardless of waiting list times. These appointments will focus on reviewing the child’s progress and adjusting the plan as needed, giving families confidence that therapy will continue without interruption.

4. Service Delivery:

  • ●  Availability:
We aim to schedule initial assessments within 2 weeks of referral, and follow-up

appointments incrementally (often every 4 to 6 weeks depending on availability and annual leave).

  • ●  School Visits/Training Key Persons:
Where suitable, we offer ongoing intervention for families via key educaitonal staff. This

may be a school visit, a phone or zoom call with teaching staff or other key persons.

    5. Parent Training and Support:

Training Sessions:
We provide training for parents on how to support their child's development at home with practical techniques and activities.
